Free WordPress block theme
A full-site-editing theme for accountants, bookkeepers, tax advisers, auditors, financial planners, law offices, insurance brokers and business consultants. Built and maintained by tanchev.net.
Free, GPL, and free of the usual nonsense: no locked features, no upsell notices in your dashboard, no bundled page builder, and nothing that phones home. Everything the theme does, it does for everyone.

What you get
Four complete looks
Navy & Teal, Bronze & Charcoal, Evergreen & Amber, and Monochrome. Each changes the palette and the type pairing together, and you switch between them in one click under Styles.
20 block patterns
Services grid, a how-we-work sequence, fee packages, industries served, team, testimonials, FAQ, gallery, contact details and calls to action. Drop any of them into any page.
10 templates
Front page, blog, single post, page, a title-less page template, a full-width template, archive, search and 404 — all editable in the Site Editor.
Accessible, and checked
Every text and background pair meets WCAG AA in all four palettes — the tightest measures 4.53:1 against the 4.5:1 requirement. Visible focus states, a skip link, keyboard-operable navigation, and motion that respects prefers-reduced-motion.
Fast, and small
Around 850 KB. No framework, no jQuery, no build step, no page builder. Fonts are bundled with the theme rather than fetched from Google, so there is no third-party request and one less GDPR question to answer.
No plugin required
Nothing to install alongside it, and nothing breaks if you switch themes later — your content is ordinary WordPress blocks the whole way down.
Getting it
Ledgerly has been submitted to the WordPress.org theme directory and is currently in review (ticket 286945). Once it is approved you will be able to install it from your dashboard under Appearance → Themes → Add New, and updates will arrive the same way.
Until then, get in touch if you would like a copy to try.
Setting it up
- Activate the theme, then open Appearance → Editor.
- The home page lives in the template, not in a page. Edit it under Templates → Front Page. This trips people up, because looking under Pages shows nothing — that is normal for block themes and how WordPress’s own themes work too.
- Ordinary pages — services, about, contact — are edited under Pages as usual. Use the block inserter to drop in any of the theme’s patterns.
- Header and footer are under Patterns → Template Parts.
- Colours, fonts and spacing are under Styles. To change the whole look at once, open Styles and click Browse styles.
- Replace the placeholder images with your own from the media library. The layouts are built to hold real photographs at the same sizes.
Questions
Is anything locked or paid?
No. There is no pro version, no locked patterns, no feature held back, and no upsell in your dashboard. The theme is GPL and complete as it is.
Why are the bundled images plain placeholders?
Because a theme may only ship images it can license to everyone who downloads it, and good photography of real offices generally cannot be relicensed that way. Rather than ship stock that would not match your firm anyway, the theme ships neutral placeholders sized to the layouts, so you can drop your own photographs straight in.
Will it work with my plugins?
It should. Ledgerly adds no custom post types, shortcodes or blocks of its own, so it stays out of the way. Contact forms, SEO and analytics are plugin territory by design — pick whichever you prefer.
What happens if I switch themes later?
Your content stays. Everything is standard WordPress blocks, so pages keep working. You will lose Ledgerly’s styling and its template layouts, which is true of any theme.
Can I use it for a client site?
Yes. It is GPL — use it commercially, modify it, build client sites on it. A credit is appreciated but not required, and the footer credit link can be deleted in the Site Editor like any other block.
If you would rather not do it yourself
The theme is free and stays free. But setting up a site properly — your content, your photography, the details that make it look like the demo rather than a template — takes time you may not want to spend.
That is what I do for a living. If you want a hand with installation, customising the design to your firm’s branding, migrating an existing site, or just a look over what you have built, get in touch. Happy to answer a quick question for free, too — no obligation either way.
Ledgerly is released under the GNU General Public License v2 or later. Fonts are Montserrat, Open Sans and Inter, all under the SIL Open Font License. Icon geometry is from Lucide, ISC licensed. The bundled placeholder images were created for this theme and are GPL.
Licensing
Everything distributed from this site — every theme, free or otherwise — is 100% GPL compatible. The themes are released under the GNU General Public License v2 or later, which means you may use them commercially, modify them, and build client sites on them without restriction.
Bundled fonts are under the SIL Open Font License and icon geometry is from Lucide under the ISC License — both GPL compatible. Bundled placeholder images were created for these themes and are GPL. No theme sold or given away here contains any component under a licence incompatible with the GPL.
There is no paid or “pro” version of any of these themes. Nothing is held back, and no feature is locked. If you would like help setting a site up, that is a service — the software itself is free.
